As well as colleagues, we're best friends (see the pic of us at the 90km mark of the 2017 Oxfam Trailwalker) and for years we have chatted (usually over a wine) about how weird and funny legal language / jargon is and how exclusionary it can be.
We have seen the stats, and we know first hand from our own practice, that it is women who are underrepresented and excluded from starting businesses, running companies, or being appointed to the board of directors. Yes, there are many factors at play (not least the continuing unconscious bias of society towards women) but we think that language and confidence have a big part to play.
That's why we've launched Subtitles On, a podcast where we break down the jargon to make the start-up world more inclusive. Each week, we will chat about a different topic, everything from setting up a company, to getting money from investors, to selling your company.
We know this stuff can get pretty heavy so we promise to keep it light and hopefully have some fun with you on the way.
